The Summer You've Been Waiting for at Bird & Betty's
Welcome back to LBI for another fantastic summer of fresh seafood and brilliant sunsets. We thought we’d let all of our customers know that we recently opened Bird & Betty’s in Beach Haven at 529 Dock Road, just next to Parker’s Garage.
Bird & Betty’s is LBI’s 1970s youth culture reimagined, a time when rock and roll, epic sunsets and “the Elephant call” were everything. Well, the pizza oven looks amazing and the new dance floor is waiting. Bird & Betty’s is open and we couldn’t be more excited.
Bird and Betty Clutter purchased the Acme hotel in 1956 and recognized that young people and live music were a great combination. The tradition remained for decades. From day one when we purchased this iconic building on the Beach Haven waterfront, we knew we wanted to return it to its old glory as a music venue.
This summer, we’re lining up a whole schedule of entertainment from DJs to touring bands and some of the Island locals we love.
We’re kicking things off Memorial Day weekend with the Philly funk, hip hop and souls of the Swift Techniqueon Friday and Dancin’ Machine, a double barrel tribute to the age of disco on Saturday.
That Sunday, we’re opening the doors of our first ever Teen Nite featuring DJ Meatball. If we’re going to celebrate youth culture, it’s only right that we keep under 21 party tradition alive. Our teen nights will be a safe and comfortable environment. And the deck will be open for parents to enjoy our food and beverage menu over the bay, while their teenagers get down. We’ll be doing Teen Nite every Sunday starting again in late June.
Saturday June 1 Cheezy and The Crackers with their blend of rock, reggae and hip hop.
On Friday, June 7, we’re hosting the Lighthouse International Film Festival’s screening of “To Make a Long Story Short,” a documentary on Shorty Long and the Jersey Horns followed by a live performance by the band. Saturday June 8, we have Philly funk cover band Eleven Eleven.
We’re very excited to be a part of the growing regional music scene here as well. Throughout the summer we’ll host both original and cover acts like Temporary Grace, The Sweet Talkers, Eleven Eleven, Chevy Lopez, Empaths, the Impulsives, The Following, Sneak Attack! and the Danksters.
On June 27, we’re doing something very different as Chris Demakes of the famed ska/punk band Less than Jakeplays a solo set of his own songs and LTJ favs with JT Turret.
We’re sure everyone is already clearing their schedules for June 28 when we have the amazing Brushfire Recording artist, G Love from Philly. Garret, the world-renowned hip hop and bluesman has played with the likes of the Avett Brothers and Jack Johnson and still has a special place in his heart for LBI. This promises to be a very special night for Beach Haven.
We’re starting July with Tunnel Visionon July 1, all the way from San Diego on a national tour. They have a solid local following with their West Coast reggae, ska, punk and surf sound. They’ll be out on the road for a few more weeks and then they come back for round two on August 5.
Everyone knows that 4thof July is one of the most exciting weekends of the year on LBI and we’re proud to host our first Independence Day Party with the B Street Band, the ultimate Springsteen tribute.
Bruce!
July 15, we have the Rave-Ons, a rockabilly outfit that does a Buddy Holly Tribute and then on July 19, it’s the rock and roll soul sound of the Billy Walton Band. Walton, of course, has his roots here on LBI. Des and the Swagmatics, and their brand of funky Asbury Park soul music.
Then on July 29, the Long Beach Dub All Stars’ summer tour rolls though with the Aggrolites and Mike Pinto for all those who love dub and reggae.
Things will get super hot around here in August when we have Kashmir, is the most authentic and accurate representation of Led Zeppelin out there today on August 3. Check out Southern California’s Hula Girls and their early 60’s rockabilly, surf, and rock n’ roll sound.
Then on August 16, we have Pink Talking Fish, who play a creative Pink Floyd, Talking Heads, Phish show that fans of those bands won’t want to miss. In keeping with the theme, we have Talking Dreads, the Jamaican artist who does an insane reggae Talking Heads show on August 23. The Black Flamingos will bring their wild surf rock ride from Monmouth County to LBI on August 26.
We’re still locking in some other super exciting acts and we plan to finish out the summer with Remember Jones, super soul music with a 12-piece show band.
Every Friday and Saturday will have a DJ or band (sometimes both.) Plus, every Monday is Old Acme Night, every Sunday is Daqs on the Deck. Once we get into the hearty of summer, every Wednesday we’ll offer free oysters (six per person while supplies last.)
We couldn’t be more excited about the season. We’re going to make LBI a legitimate music destination again, hoping to have something for everyone. For the full schedule, follow us on Facebook and Instagram.
